Defending champions Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in Atlanta
Defending champions Argentina started their Copa América title defense with a 2-0 win over Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday.
Argentina went on the attack early, but Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau kept them out of the net in the opening minutes. However, Argentina eventually broke through in the 33rd minute when Nicolás González scored a header from a cross by Lionel Messi.
Argentina continued to press in the second half and doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Messi scored a penalty.
The win gives Argentina three points in Group B, while Canada has zero points.
