Bayern's Neuer: "Anyone who's ever played football knows how it feels"
Goalkeeper speaks out after howler costs Bayern in Champions League semi-final
Neuer: "It's a bitter feeling. I feel responsible for the defeat."
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has spoken out after his shocking howler cost Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.
The German international made a terrible mistake in the 88th minute of the second leg against Real Madrid, allowing Karim Benzema to score the winning goal.
"Anyone who's ever played football knows how it feels," Neuer told DAZN. "It's a bitter feeling. I feel responsible for the defeat."
Neuer's mistake was a major blow to Bayern, who had been the better team for much of the match.
The German champions had taken the lead through Alphonso Davies in the 68th minute, but Benzema's late goal gave Real Madrid a 2-1 aggregate victory.
"We played a good game," said Neuer. "We had our chances, but we didn't take them.
"Real Madrid are a great team and they punished our mistakes. We have to learn from this and come back stronger next season."
